    About the award scheme

North Somerset Council Public Health Team have developed the Healthy Early Years (HEY) Award Scheme. This scheme aims to support and recognise achievements around health, wellbeing, and development in early years settings.

The scheme complements and enhances the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework and encourages new and innovative initiatives around specified health topics.

It is free and allows you access to training, support, and resources on health topics that are relevant to early years settings.

Achieving the award is a great way to demonstrate that your setting is committed to supporting children and families getting the best start in life.

We launched a pilot of this scheme in 2022 with nine settings, including preschools, nurseries, and one childminder. The pilot focussed on food, nutrition, and oral health. However, the full scheme,  provides the opportunity to progress through a broad range of topics, such as physical activity, mental wellbeing, environmental sustainability, and injury and illness prevention. We focus on two topics per year.
