Smokefree North Somerset is excited to offer a variety of dynamic training opportunities designed to support health professionals, education settings, and community organisations. Whether you’re working in healthcare, education, or within your local community, our training equips you with the knowledge and skills to make a real impact in promoting the benefits of being smokefree.

Very Brief Advice training 

This training can be delivered face to face or online for those working in healthcare, education or the community. This training will provide you with the:

  • understanding of the importance of raising the issue of smoking
  • confidence to motivate smokers to think about stopping smoking
  • knowledge of local support and how to refer to Smokefree North Somerset

Become a Smokefree Advisor – 2 day training course

Our 2-day face to face interactive training is for those working in healthcare, education or local community and wish to offer stop smoking support to those who access your setting. The training is packed with group discussions and peer learning, practical exercises that build your confidence and help you put theory into practice

What you’ll learn

  • Nicotine addiction: why people smoke and how to help them stop
  • Smoking and health: the real impact and the difference you can make
  • Cessation treatments: what works and how to offer it
  • Behavioural support: guiding and motivating individuals effectively
  • Practical procedures: paperwork, referrals, and next steps
  • Hands-on learning and ongoing support
  • Attendance is required on both days

This course requires you to have your manager’s approval to attend the training and to offer smokefree support to individuals supported by your organisation.

Smokefree Advisor Update Training

Our biannual update training gives all trained Smokefree Advisors the opportunity to:

  • hear from special guests speakers from the world of tobacco control and behaviour change
  • keep up to date with smoking cessation medications and nicotine replacement therapy treatments
  • network with smokefree colleagues from similar settings
  • meet the Smokefree North Somerset Team
