Women and Girls Physical Activity Fund
We are excited to announce that round eight of the Physical Activity Fund will have a key focus on projects that support women and girls to become more physically active.

Evidence from the Active Lives Survey tells us that females are less likely to be physically active than males and that they find being active less enjoyable than males do. We want to change this in North Somerset by:
- Empowering women and girls so they feel more comfortable and not feeling judged whilst being physically active.
- Breaking down barriers to participation by listening to how and what women and girls wish to do in becoming more active.
- Supporting women and girls to feel safe and not intimidated when they are ready to take the first step into being more active.
Priority will be given to applications that demonstrate the intention to set up or enhance an existing project that puts women and girls at the heart of the programme.
Applications will need to demonstrate that women and girls have been instrumental in how they wish to be physically active whilst at the same time addressing the barriers that stop them from being so.
Applicants supporting women and girls who live in North Somerset and are from the following groups is encouraged:
- Disability and long-term health conditions: Activity is less common for disabled people or those living with a long-term health condition (48%) than those without (69%)
- Ethnically diverse communities: There are differences in activity levels based on ethnic background, those of Black and Asian ethnicity background (excluding Chinese) are less likely to be active than other ethnic groups
- Socio-economic groups: Those in routine / semi-routine jobs and those who are long-term unemployed or have never worked (NS-SEC 6-8*) are the least likely to be active
Applications will open from Monday 3 August until Friday 30 October 2026
