Once a child has successfully started eating solid foods, it is important to move gradually to eating the same foods as the rest of the family in the proportions shown in the Eatwell Guide. The Eatwell Guide does not apply to children under the age of 2 because they have different nutritional needs.

It is necessary to gradually increase portion sizes as a child grows and to introduce new tastes and textures early on.
