Women and Girls Physical Activity Fund

We are excited to announce that round eight of the Physical Activity Fund will focus on projects that support women and girls living in North Somerset to become more physically active.

Research data from Sport England’s Active Lives Survey shows that females are less likely to be physically active than males and are less likely to enjoy being active.  We want to change this in North Somerset by:

  • Breaking down barriers to participation by listening to and acting on feedback from women and girls
  • Creating inclusive, safe, supportive environments where women and girls feel empowered to participate without fear of judgment or intimidation.

Priority will be given to applications that demonstrate the intention to set up or enhance an existing project that puts women and girls at the heart of the programme.

Applications will need to demonstrate that women and girls have been consulted with and that insight from women and girls has informed the project design.

Applicants supporting women and girls who live in North Somerset and from the following groups are encouraged:

  • Disability and long-term health conditions: Activity is less common for disabled people or those living with a long-term health condition (48%) than those without (69%)
  • Ethnically diverse communities: There are differences in activity levels based on ethnic background, those of Black and Asian ethnicity background (excluding Chinese) are less likely to be active than other ethnic groups
  • Socio-economic groups: Those in routine / semi-routine jobs and those who are long-term unemployed or have never worked (NS-SEC 6-8*) are the least likely to be active

Applications will open from Monday 3 August until Friday 30 October 2026
