Scotch Horn Leisure Centre in Nailsea offer various exercise on referral schemes.

Benefits of the schemes

The aim of the sessions is to encourage anyone with a *medical condition to become more physically active and have an increased sense of wellbeing.  Other benefits of the schemes include:

●  Improved health and mobility
●  An exercise program tailored to meet individual needs
●  A chance to meet new people
●  A safe environment with friendly staff
●  In some cases, a reduction in the need for medication

 

Sessions

Steps to Health Gym Sessions

Supervised gym sessions with a qualified Steps to Health instructor to help guide you through your fitness journey

Steps to Health sessions run on the following days/times:

Tuesday: 11am to 11.55am or 12pm to 12.55pm
Wednesday: 10am to 10.55am
Thursday: 12pm to 12.55pm

 

Cardiac /Cancer Rehabilitation

Cardiac Rehabilitation

A supervised exercise or circuit session with a qualified cardiac instructor to provide you with coaching and reassurance. We aim to give you the reassurance you need to exercise safely and to help improve the health of your heart and continue with your normal daily life.

The sessions are open to anyone with a previous history of cardiovascular disorder, anyone recovering from a heart attack, or recent cardiac surgery. Referrals can be from your GP or cardiac nurse.

Cancer Rehabilitation

A step by step approach to help you live with and beyond cancer by providing you with a range of tools and opportunities to enhance your recovery.

Cardiac/Cancer rehabilitation sessions run on the following days/times:

Tuesday: 10am to 10.55am or 12pm to 12.55pm
Thursday: 11am to 11.55am

 

Parkinson’s

A supervised exercise session aimed at helping with mobility for people living with Parkinson’s

Parkinson’s sessions run on:

Thursday: 12pm to 12.55pm

 

Stay Steady

A supervised exercise session aimed to improve your co-ordination and balance and helps you to move more with confidence.

Stay Steady sessions run on:

Wednesday: 11am to 11.55am

 

Stroke Rehabilitation

Designed to help you with your recovery from a stroke. We work on individual needs to improve mobility and co-ordination.

Stroke Rehabilitation sessions run on:

Thursday: 1pm to 1.55pm

 

Programme Costs

Pay as you go: £5.20 per session
Block booking: £52.00  for 12 sessions.
GP referral membership on completion of the 12 sessions: £27.50 per month ( You will be entitled to the GP Referral Membership after being signed off by the GP Referral Team. )

Medical conditions

*Medical conditions include: Obesity, Hypertension, CHD If (i) > 6/12 elapsed since acute cardiac event, or (ii) > 6/12 since discharge from Phase III, or (iii) CHD history but no recent acute event, Hypercholesterolaemia, Diabetes Type 1 & 2, Stress or mild anxiety, Mild or moderate depression, Mild skeletal and muscular injuries, Osteoarthritis, Osteoporosis, Rheumatoid arthritis, Parkinson’s disease, Multiple Sclerosis (MS), Asthma, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), Fibromyalgia,
Back pain, Cancer.
