We regularly ask for feedback from people who come to Health Walks, to find out about their experiences and what it means to them. Here are some examples of the responses we have received:
“I live on my own and I am in my 70th year. I started on the walks last Autumn in tandem with joining Weight Watchers. The walks have been highly beneficial in increasing my physical fitness, helping me lose weight, and allowing me to have a good natter with people that I would otherwise never meet. When I started attending the health walks I was very apprehensive about my ability, now I am undaunted about any distance across Clevedon and I try to walk every day.”
“I retired last year age 65 to look after my older mother and I needed something to keep me fit, the walking group was just what I needed, well organised, outdoors, meeting new people, and plenty of greenery plants and fresh air I really enjoy it.”
“I belong to the Nailsea Group and have done since their first walk. I have made many friends through the group and everyone is very friendly. I have not been able to go very often over the last few months due to my husband’s ill health and I am his sole carer. The friends I have made through the walks have been very supportive.”
“I really enjoy my health walk, I love the friendliness of the whole group and I can’t wait for Thursday to come each week. It is such a nice atmosphere and all so pleasant.”
“I’d just like to say that I value the health walks, not only from the point of view of keeping fit and active for as long as possible (I am 75), but also for the social aspect. We get to know the regular walkers and can always find something to chat about whilst we are walking. It’s also a very good way of learning about the area.”
“I joined the health walks the first week of my retirement in August 2011. I joined because it seemed a good way to take regular exercise and discover more of the area I had lived in for the past 27 years.”
“The group were very welcoming and there was always someone to chat to and make new contacts. As my friends retired I persuaded them to join and so over the years it has become a regular, weekly social event. You learn about different areas, you make friends, keep fit and more importantly we usually find something to laugh about.”
