People living with Parkinson’s in Portishead and from across the South West are being invited to join a special walking football event to help more local people living with the condition to get active in a fun and social way.

When: Friday 2 May, from 10.30am to 1pm

Where: Portishead Town Football Club, Bristol Road, Portishead, BS20 6QG

Organised by Portishead Town Football Club, with support from the Walking Football Association (WFA), the free event is designed to be a friendly way for people to try walking football in a social and accessible environment.

No previous experience of walking football is required and carers or relatives are welcome to attend or take part. Trained walking football coaches will be on hand to provide support and guidance to the participants and there will be a range of training drills and fun matches to try on the day.

Participants are advised to wear comfortable active wear and footwear, and to bring a bottle of water and any snacks or medication they might need.

Refreshments and a free lunch will be available after the training, and the instructors will be on hand to answer any questions from participants. Attendees will also have the opportunity to try a free PD Warrior taster session at the event and to meet some local Parkinson’s clinicians.

Nigel Osmond, Operations Manager at Portishead Town Football Club, said:

“We are delighted to be working with the Walking Football Association to deliver the fun new walking football sessions in May. The open day is already gathering momentum with lots of support from so many areas of expertise and Portishead Town FC can’t wait to get going.”
