Mental Wellbeing and Community

There are clear correlations between mental wellbeing and community, having a community around you to support you, feeling part of a community. That could be your local community where you live or a community of people that are in a similar position to you.

Across North Somerset we have some amazing community projects that we help to fund so they can continue to do amazing work for our communities. Here are some of the amazing organisations we fund:

Brown Rock
Brown Rock offers nature-based health promotion programmes in woodland settings to support wellbeing. Their regular “Wild Days” feature mindfulness, reflection, and hands-on seasonal nature activities, allowing flexible attendance and encouraging long-term engagement for greater benefit. “Seasonal Saturdays” offer opportunities to learn nature-based skills like willow weaving and promote ongoing nature connection, especially accessible to those in full-time work. Social connection is supported through WhatsApp groups, and new participants are welcomed through planned events in 2025. Find out more about Brown Rock here.
Growing at Grove Park
Growing at Grove Park will run 40 wellbeing-focused workshops and classes in 2025–2026, including free, nature-based craft sessions for families during school holidays to encourage outdoor creativity and resilience in children. Additional activities include Tai Chi, yoga, sketching, and lavender crafting, aimed at improving both physical and mental health while addressing social isolation among residents. Talk Club
Talk Club is a men’s mental health charity that fosters supportive, peer-led spaces for open conversation. In 2025–2026, they aim to sustain their 12 existing Talk Clubs in North Somerset, expand into underserved areas like Bournville Estate, and reach older men and young men via community and college-based initiatives. Their focus is on improving mental wellbeing and reducing isolation through structured, regular dialogue. Find out more about Talk Club here.
Uncle Paul’s Chili Charity
Uncle Paul’s Chili Charity offers wellbeing days on a Mendip Hills farm for up to 30 participants per session, featuring activities like horticulture, animal care, beekeeping, and food workshops. The programme helps individuals connect with nature and each other, improving mental health and providing participants with a sense of purpose and community involvement in the development of the farm. Wellspring
Wellspring Counselling provides low-cost or free one-on-one counselling sessions for adults in Weston-super-Mare, with dedicated support for parents of young people facing mental health challenges. Their aim is to reduce stress and anxiety while equipping clients with coping tools to better navigate their own and their family’s mental health journeys. Find out more about Wellspring here.
